How to view Flipnotes
When you want to watch a Flipnote on the Flipnote Hatena web site, click on its thumbnail icon and you will be taken to the Flipnote Page where the Flipnote will automatically begin to play.

- 1. Pause
- When you open a Flipnote's page it will automatically start to play, but if you move your mouse anywhere on top of the Flipnote a pause button will appear. If you click the pause button you can stop the Flipnote from playing and if you click again it will resume playback from where it last stopped.
- 2. Playback Mode
- You can change the way a Flipnote plays back with this button. Clicking this button will allow you to choose between Loop Playback or Play Once mode. The setting you choose will remain in effect for all of the Flipnotes that you watch.
- 3. Sound On/Off
- With this button you can turn the sound playback on or off when you watch Flipnotes. This setting will remain in effect for all of the Flipnotes that you watch.
- 4. PREV, NEXT
- The PREV button will take you to the previous Flipnote and the NEXT button will take you to the next Flipnote. For the Popular Flipnotes section these buttons will function in the order of the popularity of Flipnotes at the time that you opened the player window, and for Channels these buttons will playback in the order that the Flipnotes were added to the channel.
- 5. Creator
- Click here to view the username and profile icon of the Flipnote's creator.
- 6. Views
- The total number of times that a Flipnote has been viewed since it was posted on the site is displayed here.
- 7. Stars
- This displays the number of stars that a Flipnote has received. If you are logged in with your Hatena user ID you can also click the
button to add more stars. You can add as many stars as you want to a Flipnote. - 8. Downloads
- This shows the number of times that a Flipnote has been downloaded by Nintendo DSi users.
- 9. Command
- The command for that Flipnote is displayed.
- 10. Add Flipnote To Blog
- Copy and paste the code here to paste a Flipnote as a comment on Flipnote Hatena, or to post Flipnotes onto blogs. HTML code is used for most blog services, and Hatena Notation is used for Flipnote Hatena or Hatena Haiku.
- 11. Channels
- Displays the channel(s) the Flipnote is linked with.
- 12. Related Flipnotes
- You can view the Original Flipnote here or a list of Spin-offs that have been made from the Flipnote.
New & Popular Flipnotes
On the top page of the Flipnote Hatena website you can see the Flipnotes that have received the most stars listed as Popular Flipnotes and the Flipnotes most recently posted to the site will be listed as New Flipnotes.

Newest
Flipnotes will be displayed as a list in the order they were posted, starting with the newest Flipnotes.

Recommended Flipnotes
Flipnotes you like are determined by what you add stars to. Flipnotes by users with similar likes will be displayed to you as "Recommended Flipnotes".
Most Commented
Flipnotes with many recent comments are displayed
Random
Flipnotes will be displayed randomly.
Show all new Flipnotes
This setting allows you to display all popular Flipnotes, or only Flipnotes that have earned a certain number of stars. Click the checkbox to show all popular Flipnotes.
About the Popular Flipnotes list
Flipnotes in the Popular Flipnotes list are chosen based on multiple types of data collected about them, including the number of users who added stars, and the number of times the Flipnote was downloaded.
Optimized Popular Flipnotes function

You can enable this feature from the "Service Settings" section of your Settings page on the Flipnote Hatena website. With this option enabled you can see Flipnotes that are popular with your age group in the Most Popular section.
If you do not wish to use the Optimized Flipnotes feature choose "Disable" next to "Optimize Popular Flipnotes" in the Service Settings section of your settings page. If you uncheck the checkbox next to "Show all Popular Flipnotes" in the Popular Flipnotes section, you can display the Optimized Flipnotes list again at any time.

How to use your Creator's Room
When you register as a Hatena user you'll be able to add stars and comments to Flipnotes that you like, and all of the Flipnotes that you add stars and comments to will be stored in your Creator's Room where you'll be able to easily find them again.

- 1. New Flipnotes from Favorites
- Flipnotes from your favorite users are displayed in the order that they have been posted, starting from the most recent posts.
- 2. Starred
- A list of the Flipnotes that you have added stars to is displayed here. When you add stars to Flipnotes that you like it functions in the same way as a bookmark.
- 3. Comments
- A list of the Flipnotes that you have commented on is displayed here. The comments are displayed to the lower right of Flipnotes, and you can check if anyone has made replies to your comments.
- 4. Channels
- The channels that you have created and the channels that you have recently viewed are displayed here.
After you Register with Hatena, you can view information about the Flipnotes you have posted from your Nintendo DSi.

- 1. New Flipnotes from Favorites
- Flipnotes from your favorite users are displayed in the order that they have been posted, starting from the most recent posts.
- 2. Profile
- That creator's profile will be displayed.
- 3. Flipnotes
- The number of Flipnotes that you have posted is displayed here.
- 4. Views
- The number of times that your Flipnotes have been viewed is displayed here.
- 5. Stars
- The number of stars that your Flipnotes have received is displayed here.
- 6. Comments
- The number of comments that your Flipnotes have received is displayed here.
- 7. Creators Ranking
- The ranking order for the Creator Ranking section is determined by calculating a total score based on various criteria such as the number of users who added stars, and number of views.
- 8. Country
- That creator's country and region will be displayed.
- 9. Command
- The command for that Flipnote is displayed.
- 10. Add Flipnote list to Blog
- Hatena DiaryTags to post a Flipnote to other websites are displayed here.
- 11. Creator's fans
- A list of users who are your fans is displayed here.
- 12. Flipnote comments
- Flipnotes of yours that have recently received comments are displayed here.
- 13. Channel Submissions
- The channels that you have posted to are displayed here.
* Only users who are Flipnote Citizens can create, edit or delete channels. In order to become a Flipnote Citizen you need to be an active poster on Flipnote Hatena for more than 30 days. For more information please see the Flipnote Citizen Help section.
How to view the ranking
On the Ranking page you can review the popularity of Flipnotes, creators, and channels throughout the history of the Flipnote Hatena service. You can view weekly, monthly, or all-time rankings for posted Flipnotes, as well as the number of views, number of downloads, etc.

- 1. Time selector buttons
- You can view the ranking by daily, weekly, monthly or all-time data.
- 2. Overall Ranking
- The Flipnote ranking is displayed in various categories such as the number of times Flipnotes have been viewed, how many unique users added stars to Flipnotes and more.
- 3. Calendar
- If you click on a date you can see the ranking listings for that day.
- 4. Creators Ranking
- Creators are displayed in the order of how many times their creator pages have been viewed.
- 5. Channels Ranking
- Channels are displayed in the order of how many times their channel description pages have been viewed.
- 6. Ranking by category
- The top 4 Flipnotes ranked by their number of views, unique user stars, downloads and Spin-offs is displayed here.
If you click on the See more link on the ranking name you can see additional detailed information.
* Data for the weekly, monthly and all-time ranking is calculated at the time the Flipnote is first ranked within the top 30. For this reason the number of views and stars that is displayed may be different from the current number of views and stars that the Flipnote has received.
How to search for Flipnotes
Use the search tool to find Flipnotes, creators and channels from one input form.

You can use the search tool found at the top right of every page on Flipnote Hatena to find Flipnotes, creators and channels. After you enter your search terms and click the 'Search' button the results will be displayed on a new page. You can use search to find results from the following:
- Flipnotes: Flipnote title and description, or Flipnote ID
- Creators: Creator name
- Channels: Channel name and description
Using Command Search
You can easily access Flipnotes, creators, or channels on Flipnote Hatena by entering commands on your Nintendo DSi (by using the Control Pad, A, B, X, Y and L & R Buttons). You can also use the Command Search function on the Flipnote Hatena website to enter a command with your keyboard or your mouse, just like you would on a Nintendo DSi. You can tell your friends how to find your Flipnotes by telling them your personal "Command", and use commands to quickly access content on Flipnote Hatena that you like.

To use Command Search on the Flipnote Hatena website, click on the button next to the search form at the top right of the page. Click on the buttons, or use your keyboard to enter a command. As you enter commands, Flipnotes, creators and channels containing those commands will be displayed below the command entry form.
